Currencies

Overview

Use Currencies to define the currencies that you use to process transactions within your business.

Setting Up Currencies

Select Administration | Setup | Currencies.

Click New to create a new currency.

In Name, specify the name of the currency. For example, you could use United States Dollar for the currency of the United States or Euro for the currency of the countries of the European Union that support the euro.

In Currency Code, specify the ISO 4217 code for the currency. For example, USD is the ISO code for the U.S. Dollar and EUR is the ISO code for the euro.

In Currency Symbol, specify the symbol used to identify the currency. For example, enter $ for the Dollar or € for the euro.

Note: ISO currency codes and symbols can be found on various websites, including wikipedia.com and xe.com/symbols. You can cut and paste codes and symbols from these sites. You can also copy currency symbols from the Windows® Character Map. One way to open this utility is to enter charmap in the Start | Run dialog box.   

In Decimal Symbol, specify the symbol or character that you want to use to identify decimal places within the currency amounts. The most common choices are comma (,) and period (.).

In Number of Digits After Decimal, specify the number of digits to the right side of the decimal place used to define monetary information. This is also known as “decimal precision.”

In Digit Grouping Symbol, specify the symbol that you want to use to align groups of currencies. The most common choices are comma (,) and period (.).

In Negative Display Format select the format that you want to use to display negative numbers. Valid options include the following:

$-111.11

$111.11-

$ -111.11

$ 111.11-

($111.11)

In Realized Currency Gain, specify the realized currency gain account that has been set up in your organization’s GL Chart of Accounts. This field is available for use only if you are using Multicurrency in your Beyond Software system.

In Realized Currency Loss, specify the realized currency loss account that has been set up in your organization’s GL Chart of Accounts. This field is available for use only if you are using Multicurrency in your Beyond Software system.

Note: Realized currency gains and losses may use the same account(s) regardless of the currency type, or there may be different accounts to use for each currency type. This depends on your organization’s Chart of Accounts. See also About Realized Gain/Loss Journal Entries for Multicurrency.

Click Save and New, or click Save and then click New, to save the current currency and start adding the next.
