Copy-Paste

Overview

The Copy-Paste options duplicate or relocate individual data items or lines of information known as detail lines (that is, the detail lines/rows that make up the Notes) from one place in a screen to another position in the screen or from one screen to another screen. These commands also include the concepts of cutting items and of drag-and-drop operations.

Whereas the Copy command duplicates an existing item in another location, the Cut command "cuts," or removes, an item from its current location so that it can be moved to another location in the same screen or in another screen.

The drag-and-drop operation is a form of cut-and-paste operation in which the mouse pointer is used to select an item by clicking and holding the mouse button and the item is then dragged to its new location. This new location can be a different location on the current screen or it can be a different screen.

The Copy-Paste commands are available in several forms:

As buttons on the toolbar: Cut, Copy, Paste

As commands on menu shortcuts, opened by clicking the right mouse button

As keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl + X (Cut), Ctrl + C (Copy), Ctrl + V (Paste)

The availability of the commands and the forms in which they are available depend on the screen being used. Some screens offer copy-paste capability while other screens do not. Additionally, some screens include the commands on a toolbar, whereas on other screens they are available from a shortcut menu or by using keyboard shortcuts only. Some screens do not yet have Copy-Paste implemented.

Cutting, Copying, and Pasting Items

The Cut, Copy, and Paste commands work just as they do in other Windows-based programs: select or highlight an item in a box (text box, list box, and so on); click Cut or Copy to add the item to the clipboard; click the mouse pointer in a new screen location to define the insertion ("paste") point; and then click Paste.

A: Each screen has its own rules for the Copy-Paste commands. That is, because you can cut or copy items in one screen does not mean that you can paste them on all other screens.

Q: Can the clipboard have more than one item in it at a time?Q: Can the clipboard have more than one item in it at a time?
