Use Project Types as an optional selection criterion in some project reports and also as the source of the utilization type that is used by the Staff Utilization report and Staff Utilization by Periods report.
Creating Project Types
Select Projects | Setup | Project Types.
Click New to create a new project type. The pointer will appear in the first blank row.
Type a description for the project type in Description, and then press Tab.
In Utilization Category, select a category to classify time on the Staff Utilization report and Staff Utilization by Periods report. The options include the following:
Billable – Indicates that the project is a billable project. All other utilization categories are for non-billable projects.
BusDev – Indicates business development time.
Holiday – Indicates holiday time.
Non-Billable – Indicates time that is not billable to a project.
Other – Indicates miscellaneous time.
SickPersonal – Indicates sick or personal time.
Vacation – Indicates vacation time.
Note: If you plan to use the Staff Utilization report or Staff Utilization by Periods report, you should know the following:
There are five (5) Non-Billable (Indirect) Categories on the report that affect the setup and use of project types in Project and the way the projects are charged on timesheets, and so on.
Admin
Bus Dev
Vacation
Holiday
Sick/Pers
For each of these 5 categories, a project type must be defined to correspond to the utilization category and a project. For example, to track vacation time in the Staff Utilization report and Staff Utilization by Periods report, you must do the following:
Set up a Project Type that uses the Utilization Category of VACATION.
Set up a Project that is named VACATION, with no tasks, using the Type of VACATION.
Users report their vacation time in Timesheet or Weekly Timesheet by using Project ID of VACATION. The users do not have to define a task.
Although there are other ways that you may track vacation time, unless you use this method, it will not be captured in the Staff Utilization Report or Staff Utilization by Periods report.
Click Save and New, or click Save and then click New, to save the current project type and start adding the next.
A: You must have a project set up to which you charge time and expenses that contains the project type on which to report.
